Tutors in Inverness: 10 questions parents ask (and our answers)

Updated: 18 hours ago

Choosing a tutor is a big decision. Parents across Inverness and the Highlands ask us the same questions every week, so we have put our answers in one place. If yours isn't here, just get in touch.

1. What subjects and stages do you teach?

We teach Maths, English and Physics from Primary 5 to S6. That covers primary numeracy and literacy, early secondary (S1–S3, Curriculum for Excellence), and National 5 and Higher courses set by Qualifications Scotland (formerly SQA).

2. Who are the tutors?

TEAM TUTORS (Top English and Maths Tutors) is a team of experienced teachers and staff. Every member of the team is PVG checked, and we follow robust safeguarding procedures.

3. Do you tutor in person in Inverness?

Yes. We run small group sessions and 1:1 sessions in person in Inverness. Families come to us from across the area, including Culloden, Smithton, Westhill, Milton of Leys, Nairn, Ardersier, Beauly, Muir of Ord, Dingwall, the Black Isle and Drumnadrochit.

4. Can my child have lessons online?

Yes. We teach live 1:1 lessons online for pupils anywhere in Scotland, the rest of the UK and worldwide. Online lessons work especially well for exam preparation and for families further afield in the Highlands.

5. How much does tutoring cost?

All in-person sessions are 45 minutes:

  • Small group P5–S3: £22.50

  • Small group National 5: £25

  • Small group Higher: £27.50

  • 1:1 in person, any stage: £45

  • 1:1 online: from £18.50 for 30 minutes

Family plans and home-schooling packages are priced on request. You can see everything on our prices page.

6. Group or 1:1 – which is better?

Small groups suit many pupils: they are affordable, sociable and build confidence through working with others. 1:1 lessons suit pupils who need a fully tailored plan, have a specific gap to close, or are preparing intensively for National 5 or Higher exams. We are happy to talk it through and recommend what fits your child.

7. What is included in a session?

Every session includes personalised materials, feedback and mentoring. We don't just teach the topic – we build genuine connections with pupils so they make genuine progress and enjoy learning again.

8. Do you follow the Scottish curriculum?

Yes. Our teaching follows Curriculum for Excellence and the National 5 and Higher course specifications, so lessons line up with what your child is doing in school.

9. When should we start before exams?

The earlier the better. Starting in the autumn of the exam year gives time to fix gaps, build exam technique and practise past papers without last-minute stress. That said, it is never too late to make a difference.

10. How do we get started?

Book a free taster session. Tell us your child's stage, subject and what they find tricky, and we will suggest the right tutor and session. Email info@teamtutors.co.uk or call 07401 136484.

Genuine connections. Genuine progress.
