Six months to the 2027 exams: National 5 and Higher dates every Inverness family needs

Updated: 5 hours ago

Qualifications Scotland (formerly SQA) has published the 2027 exam timetable. The exams run from Monday 26 April to Wednesday 2 June 2027, with Thursday 3 June kept as a contingency day. That is only about six months away. Here are the dates for the subjects we teach, and a simple plan for the months in between.

2027 exam dates for Maths, English and Physics

  • National 5 Applications of Mathematics: Monday 26 April (morning) – the first exam of 2027

  • Higher Applications of Mathematics: Monday 26 April (afternoon)

  • Higher Physics: Tuesday 4 May (morning)

  • National 5 Physics: Tuesday 4 May (afternoon)

  • Higher English: Friday 7 May (morning)

  • National 5 English: Monday 10 May (morning)

  • Higher Mathematics: Friday 14 May (morning)

  • National 5 Mathematics: Monday 17 May (morning)

Always check final dates and times with your school and on the official Qualifications Scotland exam timetable.

What this means for Inverness pupils

  • Applications of Maths comes first, on the very first day, so revision needs to be well under way before the Easter holidays.

  • Physics and English fall in the first half of May, and Maths follows in mid-May.

  • Pupils sitting several of these subjects will have exams close together, so a clear plan makes a big difference.

A simple plan from now to April

  • Now to Christmas: find the gaps. Use homework, unit tests and teacher feedback to spot the topics that feel shaky.

  • Prelims: many schools hold prelims over the winter. Treat them as a full practice run, then use the results to decide what to work on next.

  • February to Easter: past papers under timed conditions, with extra time on the weakest topics.

  • After Easter: short, regular practice, good sleep and a calm routine.
